Contract Value: £800000
Contract Duration: 13 weeks
Commencement Date: 1st October 2005
Project Completion Date: 1st December 2005

The original project involved the groundworks and internal infrastructure for the new store. Works associated with this were 15000m³ bulk earthworks including re-cycling of approx. 1500m³ of demolition material for use beneath the building, internal/external drainage to a depth of 4 metres, roadworks/block paving and hard landscaping to the car parks and distribution roads, foundations, concrete retaining walls and floor slab. External lighting/road markings and landscaping were also included in the original package.

In addition to this Kilmac were requested to construct a new access roundabout on the A935 – Brechin Road as designed by Angus Council. These works included the planning and reconstruction of the existing road surface, traffic control systems, drainage, street lighting, surfacing, hard landscaping, advance warning signage and road markings.
The approval of the scheme was delayed giving Kilmac only 4 weeks from receipt of the drawings to the opening of the store. In addition to the traffic management issues on the main Montrose distribution road, no power connection orders for the new lighting systems had been placed. Kilmac worked closely with Angus Council Street Lighting and Roads Division to ensure the works were completed on programme with minimal delay to the public.
Kilmac also had to lower approx. 300 metres of existing fibre optic BT cable to allow construction of a new bus lay-by, including the reconstruction of 2No large reinforced concrete BT chambers within the carriageway.
The external works package was valued at £400k with both the Client and the Local Authority satisfied that he works had been undertaken in a safe and professional manner.
