(Asda for Fife Council) Access Roundabout, Asda Store, Dalgety Bay :: Case Studies

Contract Value: £510,000

Contract Duration: 10 weeks

Commencement Date: 1st November 2007

Project Completion Date: 1st January 2008

The works involved the construction of a roundabout on the existing junction adjacent to the new store. A major issue of the project was the co-ordinating of the traffic control design and installation in conjunction with the electronic bus stops. Kilmac worked directly with Fife Council to design the most inobtrusive traffic management system to minimise the disruption to the public. The significant difference between existing and proposed levels added to the traffic management difficulty in designing the scheme.

Substantial service diversions were undertaken during the project with over 2000 metres of existing services uncovered/re-aligned without damage to a single utility. This was only possible by the use of a specific permit to dig system operated by the management team. As a result of the deterioration of the existing road surface, an asphalt geotextile was used to strengthen the ground prior to re-surfacing. Approx. £100k worth of upgrading to the existing street lighting system was required including co-ordination with Scottish Power.

The works were finished successfully, a number of weeks prior to the store opening.
