Contract Value: £450,000
Contract Duration: 7 weeks
Commencement Date: 1st June 2006
Project Completion Date: 1st August 2006
This contract involved the upgrading of the existing Junction between the B908 and B9140 to a double lane roundabout. The works included bulk earthworks, drainage, kerbing, street lighting, surfacing, and diversion of the existing Hydro Electric HV cables.
The project was originally programmed by the client to be undertaken in 14 weeks. In conjunction with Clackmannanshire Council, Kilmac re-programmed and re-designed the traffic management scheme so that the works were carried out in less than 7 weeks. This involved a number of road closures with associated diversions, designed and implemented in house. The resultant reduction in timescale vastly reduced disruption to the public resulting in a recommendation in the local press praising Kilmac's operational achievements.
Bulk earthworks were undertaken using 2 No 30T 360deg Excavators banked at all times to ensure no damage to the existing utilities with the surplus material removed to local tips by 8 wheeled tippers.
Two of Kilmac’s in-house specialist hard landscaping squads were utilised for the project, laying in excess of 500 metres of kerbing per day using the hydraulic forklift associated mechanical kerb lifter.
The surfacing works valued at £150k were undertaken by Kilmac Surfacing Ltd in under 5 days, with the street lighting carried out by the local DLO.
Kilmac completed the project by working closely with local landowner John Marshall to ensure all fencing and re-instatement works were carried out to his satisfaction.
Working closely with Clackmannanshire Council, Kilmac identified engineering savings which resulted in the project being completed approx. 15% below the original budget.
