Contract Value: £900,000
Contract Duration: 11 weeks
Commencement Date: 1st January 2009
Project Completion Date: 1st April 2009
The project consisted of the upgrading and re-alignment of the existing 5.5m wide B9140 from Collylands Roundabout for a distance of 900m heading towards Glenochil Village.
The works involve a 10000m3 bulk earthworks package to re-align the existing road, 1500m of filter drain to a depth of 4m, 7500m2 of new carriageway, including associated kerbing, white lining and verge reinstatement.
During the works, two way traffic was maintained at all times. Kilmac worked with Clackmannanshire Council to devise a one way system to ensure the steady flow of traffic with advance warning systems to advise road users of possible delays. This revised system allowed the original contract period to be reduced from 18 weeks to 11 weeks.
In addition to the road construction, both Scottish Power and British Telecom renewed their cabling systems along the length of the re-alignment. Kilmac liaised with both companies and installed the ducting/cabling in an effort to minimise disruption during the works.
Local landowner, John Marshall, worked with Kilmac to ensure minimal environmental impact by way of re-cycling arisings, use of local plant and materials through Parkhead Supplies. Local quarries were used in preference to more distant suppliers.
This is the second section of road undertaken by Kilmac for Clackmannanshire Council in this area. The first valued at £450k having been completed in 7 weeks, some 7 weeks ahead of programme.
