Project Outline

Kilmac Ltd are pleased to announce that we have been appointed by Angus Council to undertake the repair and maintenance work at Gannochy Bridge.

Gannochy Bridge is a Category B listed bridge which was built circa 1724 and was paid for by the local farmer James Wood who employed a mason to build the bridge but constructed the parapet wall himself.  It was widened in 1796 by Lord Adam George.  The bridge carries B966 across the River North Esk to the north of Edzell village.

During regular inspection it was noted that the bridge required maintenance works to ensure that it remains fit for purpose.  Through competitive tendering Kilmac Ltd were appointed by Angus Council to undertake the following:

  • Taking down and reinstatement of parapet wall
  • Raking out of defective mortar and repointing
  • Removing and replacing defective stone
  • Installation of new stainless steel tie bars through the bridge structure
  • Installing new drainage to move the disposal point away from the bridge structure.

Due to the nature of the works and the proposed working methods, road closures will be required to ensure the safe working for our personnel, however as this will involve a significant diversion for road users it has been agreed that any closure will be limited to normal working hours Monday to Friday only.

Kilmac Ltd look forward to delivering another successful project for Angus Council.
